As part of the Colorfest activities, Union County Women in Business, UCWIB, is planning a special “Shop ‘til You Drop” event in downtown Anna.
The event will be at Heather Coffman’s Martial Arts Center at 305 S. Main St. between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.
Visitors will find UCWIB members selling their items, such as jewelry, purses, rugs, shawls, Mary Kay makeup and decorative items, as well as lots of baked goods (some local bed and breakfast bakers are members of the organization).
Damian Reed scored three touchdowns to lead Anna-Jonesboro to a 37-22 win over host Sparta in Southern Illinois River-to-River Mississippi Division high school football action Friday, Sept. 28.
“Reed ran the ball really well,” A-J football coach Brett Detering said. “It’s certainly not a surprise. He’s been doing that most of the year. We were getting big yards in chunks and he was making a lot of them himself.”
Reed powered the Wildcats’ 381-yard rushing attack, gaining 175 yards on 15 carries.
Friday marked the 262nd day of construction on the new Union County courthouse in Jonesboro.
The latest update on the project was given at a regular meeting of the Union County Board of Commissioners.
The meeting was Friday morning at the community center in Jonesboro.
The update was presented to the commissioners by courthouse project manager Mike Smith.

HOK architect Sean Twomey visited the construction site Thursday, Oct. 4.
An Anna man has been charged in connection with an alleged incident involving his girlfriend which happened Sunday night.
Anna Police Chief Dale Foster reported that the incident happened at 10:15 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Dewey Street.
The suspect allegedly struck his girlfriend, a 39-year-old Anna woman, in the face and pushed her head into a parked car.
The woman went to Union County Hospital in Anna for treatment of her injuries.
Dongola plans to host a full slate of ColorFest activities on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14.
The Dongola Fire Department plans to serve a pancake breakfast Saturday from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m.
The fire department also will sponsor a beanbag tournament starting at 11 a.m.
A ColorFest parade is planned at 10 a.m. Saturday. Units will line up in the lower parking lot at the First Baptist Church.

Nancy A. Gleason, 63, of Metropolis, died at 3:00AM on Monday, October 01, 2012 at Metropolis Nursing and Rehab.
She was born on February 19, 2012 in New York.
She is survived by her friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3PM on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro. Interment will be private.

<strong>Mr. Jerry L. “Bud” Sadler, age 75 of Anna, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at his home in Anna. He was born August 10, 1937 in Ware, IL, the son of Irvin and Velma Wildy Sadler. He married Marilyn Sadler on January 27, 1960 in Jonesboro.</strong>
Sandra Lee Eddings, 70, of Ullin, died at 10:35AM Monday, October 08, 2012 at her home.
She was born on July 4, 1942 in Niles, Michigan the daughter of Zephyrie and Eileen (Gephardt) Martin. She married Paul Eddings on November 4, 1971. He survives her.
She was a member of the Cross Roads United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Paul of Ullin and 1 daughter, Sondra (Neal) Jones of Benton, Missouri; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; and 2 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister, Rose Kimberlin.
Election Day 2012 is drawing closer.
The general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 6.
In Union County, voters will cast ballots to decide the outcome of local races, and they will help to pick the next president of the United States.
Last Day to Register
With Election Day only about a month away, Union County Clerk Bobby Toler Jr. notes Oct. 9 is the last day to register to vote.
The county clerk's office in Jonesboro is scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 6, for voter registration and for absentee voting.
