James Steven Reynolds

<strong>Mr. James Steven Reynolds, age 52 of Anna, died at 10:28 a.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012 at his home near Anna. He was born March 25, 1960 in Tacoma Washington, the son of Jim and Dortha Raney Reynolds. He married Denise Marie Nobles on December 13, 1986 in Makanda, IL.</strong>

Distinguished Service Award presented to Joe Reppert

hairman of CoreLogic,  has received the Andrew D. Woodward Distinguished Service Award. Reppert is a native of Anna.

The award was presented Oct. 23 by the Mortgage Bankers Association, MBA, in recognition of his dedicated and prominent service to the association and the mortgage lending industry in a variety of capacities involving both legislative and regulatory activities.

Reppert was presented with the award in a ceremony held at MBA’s 99th annual convention and expo in Chicago.

Christmas in Downtown Anna celebration set

The 2012 holiday season is scheduled to kick off in downtown Anna with a special celebration on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Christmas in Downtown Anna is planned from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 24. Activities are being spearheaded by members of the Downtown Anna organization.

The Nov. 24 celebration will tie in with the observance of National Shop Local Day.

A wide range of events are planned in downtown Anna.

A-J football players earn postseason honors

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School football team had six players selected to the 2012 Southern Illnois River-to-River Mississippi Division All-Conference team.

Junior Damien Reed and senior Logan Tripp were both selected to the offensive and defensive all-conference teams.

Reed was  a running back on offense and a linebacker on defense. Tripp was a lineman on both offense and defense.

Seniors Alex McRaven and Seth Heern were also selected to both the offensive and defensive all-conference teams.

Shawnee North names honor roll students

Shawnee Elementary North school in Grand Tower announces first quarter honor roll students:

1st grade: Luke Choate, Jaci Harris, Marissa Harris, Landon Lane, Cody Libbert, Ryan Libbert, Allie Myers, Kaitlyn Rupcke, C.J. Schaefer, Jace Williams.

2nd grade: Colton Harris, Jack Taylor, April Tilley.

3rd grade: Connor Benbrook, Autumn Derossett, Wyatt Lyerla, Alek Mayberry, Joely McHarry, Ruby Morse, Norman Parham, Brock Reynolds, Gabriella Smith, Kaidynce Stewart.

John Frey Jr.

John Frey Jr., 76, of Cairo died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1936, in Cairo, the son of John Dennis Frey Sr. and Nellie Hodges Frey.

He married Nancy Naomi Britt. She preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 1998.

Mr. Frey was self-employed as a furniture upholsterer. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Cairo.

Remaining Firearm Deer Permits

Illinois firearm and muzzleloader deer permits are still available over-the-counter from DNR Direct license and permit vendors: through Dec. 2 for firearm and through Dec. 9 for muzzleloader-only deer hunting (or until quotas are exhausted).

Thank goodness – it's finally come to an end

Last week, we took the really easy way out. We used lots of pictures. . .about 4,000 words worth of pictures. This week, no such luck. . .

. . .instead, I think we'll kind of wander around and visit a couple of fascinating topics which flashed through my simple little mind during the past week. . .

. . .for example: aren't you glad it's finally over? And you know what I'm talking about.

Yup, the 2012 election campaign, which began in 1976, finally came to an end. I suppose there are all sorts of ways to look back on the election, like:

A-JCHS Board hears about student activities

Student activities and achievements were on the agenda at the recent October meeting of the Anna-Jonesboro Community High School District 81 Board of Education.

The District 81 Board also had a special meeting during the month.

On Oct. 10, Charity Butler, a former national and international softball player, spoke to students at the school.

Her discussion focused on three points: perspective, passion and purpose.

Julie Lewis and Lyn Bame took pre-vocational social studies students to Springfield.
