A-JCHS Board hears about student activities

Student activities and achievements were on the agenda at the recent October meeting of the Anna-Jonesboro Community High School District 81 Board of Education.

The District 81 Board also had a special meeting during the month.

On Oct. 10, Charity Butler, a former national and international softball player, spoke to students at the school.

Her discussion focused on three points: perspective, passion and purpose.

Julie Lewis and Lyn Bame took pre-vocational social studies students to Springfield.

The group went to Lincoln’s home site, the Lincoln museum and Lincoln’s tomb.

Appreciation was voiced to the school, which provided a van for the trip.

The PAST group of Union County donated fuel for the trip.

The Springfield Tourism and Convention Bureau paid for the group’s admission to the Lincoln museum.

A “generous benefactor” paid for the group’s dinner in Springfield.

A-JCHS faculty members and 79 seniors attended a recent Senior Day event at Shawnee Community College.

The A-JCHS marching band took third place honors for outstanding visual performance at the recent Drums at Appletime event in Murphysboro.

In other business at the regular meeting, the board approved Craig Dillman as head bowling coach. David Wild and Doug Hayward were recognized as volunteer bowling coaches.

Special Meeting

At the board’s October special meeting, Eric Massey was employed as head wrestling coach for 2012-2013 pending his certification.

Grover Mays and Rollie Hawk were recognized as volunteer assistant wrestling coaches for the 2012-2013 school year.
