Shirley J. Claunch

<strong>Mrs. Shirley J. Claunch, age 77, of Anna died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012 at her home in Anna. She was born March 31, 1935 in East Prairie, Missouri, the daughter of Guy A. and Verda Nunn Weeks. She married Everett Claunch on July 22, 1953 in Dongola.</strong>

Stanley C. Hileman

<strong>Mr. Stanley C. Hileman, age 73 of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born August 13, 1939 in Mill Creek, the son of Lowell and June Powles Hileman. He married Peggy Henderson on July 30, 1966 in Anna.</strong>

Lorene Morgan

<strong>Mrs. Lorene Morgan, age 91 of Jonesboro, died at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in the Jonesboro Rehab and Health Care Center. She was born November 20, 1920 in Union County, the daughter of George W. and Delia F. Sadler Spurlock. She married Harry J. Morgan on February 8, 1942 in Jackson, MO.</strong>

Ralph E. Stroehlein

<strong>Mr. Ralph E. Stroehlein, age 88 of Cobden, died at 3:01 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at his home in Cobden. He was born October 22, 1923 in Cobden, the son of Louis and Ruth Lence Stroehlein. He married Wilma Helen Livesay on December 16, 1952 in Wolf Lake. She preceded him in death on November 5, 2011.</strong>

Hicks helps Quincy win golf tournament

The Quincy University D II women’s golf team had an outstanding performance at the Illinois College Midweek tournament in Jacksonville Wednesday, Sept. 12, afternoon.

After a delay in the release of the final results, the Lady Hawks were declared the champions of the tournament by just two strokes.

On the last hole, sophomore Kayla Martin chipped a tough sand shot onto the green for an easy two-putt.

Jeraldine Sauerbrunn

Jeraldine Sauerbrunn, 85, of Saint George, Utah and formerly of Jonesboro, Illinois, died on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 8:40AM at her residence. 

She was born on June 8, 1927 in Pomona the daughter of Otha and Agnes (Lipe) Milton.  She married Roy Sauerbrunn. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1993.

Anna man sentenced on meth charge

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds reported Thursday, Aug. 16, that Travis Farris, 24, of 161 Hillside Terrace in Anna has been sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of unlawful participation in methamphetamine production.

The charge is a Class 1 felony.

Edmonds said that under Illlinois law, Farris must serve at least 75 percent of the sentence.
