Mr. Floyd Lynn “Cotton” Petty, age 86 of Anna, formerly of Joliet, died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born June 3, 1927 in Carbondale, the son of Elmer and Essie Kendall Petty. He married Mary Marie Swafford on March 7, 1953 in Cobden. She preceded him in death on July 8, 1995.
Holiday season activities are scheduled to continue this weekend in Union County.
The fifth annual Christmas in the Village celebration is planned Saturday, Dec. 7, in Cobden.
The Old Feed Store along Appleknocker Drive in downtown Cobden plans to host an open house featuring a variety of activities, including free holiday treats and refreshments, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Santa Claus is scheduled to be at The Old Feed Store from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Goody bags will be given to children.
On Dec. 3, Jeffry M. Presutti Jr., 36, of Pomona, was indicted in a one-count indictment charging conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, reported in a news release.
The offense occurred between April and October in Jackson County.
Presutti was scheduled to make his initial appearance in federal court on Dec. 9, in Benton.
Mr. Robert Thomas “Bob” Reynolds, age 70 of Anna, died at 6:53 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 10, 1943 in Jonesboro, the son of Robert Lee and Sarah Viola Burns Reynolds. He married Brenda Rapier on March 22, 1968 in Momence, Illinois.
Mrs. Ludene Cutrell, age 79 of Cobden, died at 6:10 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 in the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. She was born December 5, 1934 in Makanda the daughter of Howard and Edna Mae Ward Meacham. She married Charles O. Cutrell on November 26, 1955 in Carbondale, IL. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2001.
Mrs. Sandalee Cesewski, age 63 of Anna, died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at her home in Anna. Sandalee was born April 23, 1950 in Chicago. She married Timothy Cesewski, and he preceded her in death April 6, 2005.
Survivors include three daughters Laura Trandel of Anna, Deann Trandel of Chicago, Cheri Trandel of Anna, 8 grandchildren and one great-grandson, three brothers David, Mark and Mike Joachim all of South Bend, IN.
Illinois State Police District 22 personnel are conducting Nighttime Enforcement, NITE, patrols in Union County during December.
Union County is in District 22.
Capt. Ken Ryder noted that the Illinois State Police have no tolerance for impaired drivers.
Mrs. Donna Kae Ralls, age 68 of Anna, died at 7:19 a.m. Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was born May 1, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Leonard and Annie Bloodworth Turner. She married Darrell Eugene Ralls on June 20, 1964 in Pleasant Grove Church.
The Union County Historical and Genealogy Society is seeking assistance from Cobden area residents as it prepares to host a special exhibit in 2014.
The society has been selected by the Smithsonian, in partnership with the Illinois Humanities Council, to host a Hometown Teams program.
The exhibit is scheduled to open on March 1, 2014, at the Union County Museum in downtown Cobden. The museum is operated by the society.
Cobden is one of six towns in Illinois which have been selected to host the event.
Mrs. Betty Lou Mangrum, age 75 of Alto Pass, died at 8:54 am, Thursday December 12, 2013 at the Union County Hospital in Anna. She was born May 19, 1938 in Alto Pass, the daughter of Elmer Otis and Mamie Dell Smith Doughty. Betty married Edward Lee Mangrum on May 27, 1959 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1990.
