Henry “Pete” Taylor

Mr. Henry “Pete” Taylor, age 93 of Anna, died at 4:10 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 in the Jackson County Rehab in Murphysboro. He was born February 29, 1920 in Vienna, the son of Giles and Lulu Cummin Taylor. He married Mary Croft on December 24, 1954 in Marion. She preceded him in death July 18, 1997. He later married Karen Gentry on September 11, 2009 in Pinckneyville.

Man sentenced on meth charge

Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds reported that Freddy L. Morse Jr., 40, of 120 Casey St. in Anna has been sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Morse was sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of unlawful participation in methamphetamine production, a Class X felony.

Morse was arrested on July 9 at the Casey Street residence following an investigation by the Union County Sheriff's Office.

Mary M. Coleman

         Mrs. Mary M. Coleman, age 93 of Anna, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 in Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan. She was born December 20, 1920 in Union County, the daughter of Ferry Everett and Lois Karraker Hinkle. She married Robert Coleman. He preceded her in death in 1967.

         Mary is survived her daughter Melinda Coleman of Grand Blanc, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Coleman and one son, Robert Tom Coleman; and one sister, Ferry Hartline.

Wreaths Across America ceremony scheduled at national cemetery

The Mound City National Cemetery again plans to honor veterans during the holiday season.

The cemetery in Mound City plans to take part in the annual Wreaths Across America Day.

The Mound City National Cemetery Preservation Commission will conduct a Wreaths Across America Day ceremony. The ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

Seven ceremonial wreaths designated for the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and POWs/MIAs will be placed.

Virginia Sue Choate

Virginia Sue Choate 76, of Jonesboro died at 3:05pm Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was born April 1, 1937 in Jonesboro, the daughter of Dan and Doris Ferrell Frick. She married Donald Ray Choate on April 16, 1955 in Jonesboro, Illinois.

David G. Young Sr.

 Mr. David G. Young Sr., age 79 of Jonesboro, at 10:04 a.m. Sunday, December, 22, 2013 in Anna.  David was a resident at the Illinois Veterans home in Anna, IL, where he enjoyed the company, food, and the staff, but always longed to be back at home with his wife Ruthanne.

Alan Wade Ramsey

Mr. Alan Wade Ramsey, age 51 of Anna, died at 10:52 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born August 9, 1962 in Anna, the son of Arence Jr. and Zetta Crader Ramsey.

Dick "Mailman" Ford

Dick "Mailman" Ford, 66, of Murray, Ky., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at the Murray Calloway County Hospital, in Murray, Ky.

Mr. Ford was born on Nov. 19, 1946, in Anna, the son of Garnet and Martha Wilson Ford.

He was a retired mail carrier with the United States Post Office, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Wolf Lake, a member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club, the Optimist Club, the VFW and the Illinois Tractor Pull Association.
