This week, in honor of warm spring breezes and falling asleep in the sunshine while fine-tuning my skills at napping on a lazy Sunday afternoon, we shall, once again, just kind of meander from here to there. . .

. . .sometimes, it's not a good thing to leave me with too much time on my hands. Fortunately, that does not happen very often.

Dee Ray Johnson

Dee Ray Johnson, 83, of Anna, died Friday morning, May 23, 2014, at the home of his daughter, Kelly Needler, in Bluford.

Mr. Johnson was born on Nov. 22, 1930, in Bartlesville, Okla., the son of Issac Johnson and Maude Annable Johnson.

He married Devonna Brown in 1949 in Arkansas. She preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1993.

Betty June Forby

Betty June Forby, 88, of Benton, died at 5:35 a.m. Saturday, May 24. 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Mrs. Forby was born on July 27, 1925, in Alto Pass, the daughter of Gus Elkins and Maude Ethel Miller Elkins.

She married Paul E. Forby on Aug. 27, 1943. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2008.

She worked as a nurse's aide at Franklin Hospital in Benton prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Steel City Baptist Church. She was also a housewife.

A-J boys’ track team wins Class 1A sectional title

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ track team finished first at the IHSA Class 1A sectional track meet in Fairfield Thursday, May 22.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete this weekend at the state track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

A-J finished with a team score of 155. Fairfield was second with 101. Thirteen teams competed. The Wildcats finished first in five events and second in seven events.
