A-J boys’ track team wins Class 1A sectional title
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ track team finished first at the IHSA Class 1A sectional track meet in Fairfield Thursday, May 22.
The Wildcats are scheduled to compete this weekend at the state track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
A-J finished with a team score of 155. Fairfield was second with 101. Thirteen teams competed. The Wildcats finished first in five events and second in seven events.
Wildcats who earned first-place finishes included:
Noah Fuller, high jump, 6-1; Derek Harvel, triple jump, 44-0.5; Garrett Nadeau, 400-meter run, 51.93; the 3200-meter relay team of J.D. Johnston, Izzy Markovic, Taylor Anderson and Diego Godinez, 9:00.83; and the 1600-meter relay team of Nadeau, Jacob Barger, Jay Kemp and Harvel, 3:42.29.
Second place finishes for A-J were recorded by:
Marcus Taylor, pole vault, 10-6; Fuller, long jump, 20-9.25; Barger, triple jump, 42-4.25; Jared Rendleman, discus, 128-10; Steve Wells, shot put, 50-8; Anderson, 800-meter run, 2:18.04; 800-meter relay of Austin Mixen, Barger, Taylor and Fuller, 1:35.31.
Several members of the A-J girls’ track team competed last weekend at the Class 1A state track meet in Charleston.
