Paul Beatty, age 62 of Thebes, died Sunday, March 30, 2014 at his home
He was born on September 10, 1951 in Kalamazoo, MI to Floyd and Virginia Boyet Beatty. He married Ramonia Eve Johnston on February 14, 1995.
He is survived by his wife Eve of Thebes, 2 daughters; Cherie’ Wren (Charley) of Scott City and April Bryant of Jackson, 6 grandsons; Garrett Stevens (Jamie) of Advance, Cameron Stevens of Scott City and Austin, Dakota, Joshua and Lancelot Bryant all of Jackson, 1 sister, Pat Beel (Jim) of Leopold, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

<strong>Clear Creek, west of Jonesboro, rose significantly as the result of heavy rains which fell on the Union County area last week.</strong>
James Homer Taylor, age 48 of Murphysboro, died at 10:00AM Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital.
He was born February 23, 1966 to Pearl Daniel and Carolyn (Casteel) Taylor in Anna.
James was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors.
He is survived by his father, Pearl Taylor, Sr. of Ashland, MS; 2 sisters, Carolyn Carter and Anna Wardell of Murphysboro; a brother, Pearl (Tonya) Taylor, Jr of Carbondale; a very good friend, Helen Davis of Dongola; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The Shawnee High School baseball team will be competing for its eighth consecutive regional title this spring.
“Our goal is to win eight in a row and after that we’ll go wherever it takes us,” Shawnee baseball coach Chad Pitts said. “We lost some significant players,” he noted.
He was referring to pitchers Gavyn Ellet and Adam Pennington, who graduated last spring. “We won’t have those power arms back,” Pitts said.
The Redskins were 22-7 last season and finished third at the IHSA Class 1A state tournament.
