The Union County Historical and Genealogy Society plans to sponsor a program relating to the Civil War Battle of Shiloh Sunday, April 15.

The program is set for 2 p.m. at the Union County Museum in Cobden. 

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

A rare, wood cane with an intricately carved flag will be available for close viewing. 

James Newton Underwood of Union County made the cane from a limb while he and some of his comrades were trapped by the rebels at Shiloh. 

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds and Union County Sheriff David Livesay announced Wednesday, March 28, that Corey E. Iman, 19, of 45 Elm St. in Ware has been charged in connection with arson in connection with five separate fires in Ware during the months of January and March. 

Iman is charged with three counts of aggravated arson, all Class X felonies, one count of residential arson, a Class 1 felony, and one count of arson, a Class 2 felony. 

The Cobden High School baseball team was 2-1 in recent action.

Cobden 12, Cairo 0: Zach Moore fired a no-hitter to lead the Appleknockers over the visiting Co-Pilots Thursday, April 19. He also recorded 12 strikeouts.

Joseph Eck was 2-for--2 with an RBI to lead Cobden at the plate and Cayden Childers was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Sam Cohen was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Blake Wiggs was 1-for-3 with a double, Keegan Tripp was 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs and William Buyan had an RBI.

Katie Edwards led the host Anna-Jonesboro Community High School softball team to a 5-4 win over Nashville in Southern Illinois River-to-River Mississippi Division action Monday, April 9.

Edwards was 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and a run scored. Nashville was previously unbeaten this spring.

Katelynn Brush was 2-for-3 with a double, Chandra Parr was 2-for-3, Taylor Peterson was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and 3 RBIs and Mikayla Dammerman was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
