Zelva Bennett
Zelva Bennett, 99 years, 11 months, 24 days, of Tamms, died at 11:12 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Tamms.
Mrs. Bennett was born on June 13, 1910, in Olive Branch, the daughter of Amos Dunning and Estella Carter Dunning.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of Rock Springs Freewill Baptist Church in Thebes. She was a member of the Pulaski-Alexander Homemakers Extension Unit. She was a retired nurse who worked at Chaffee General Hospital in Chaffee, Mo.
Mrs. Bennett would have celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday, June 13, 2010.
She was one of 12 siblings.
Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” H. Bennett, on Dec. 4, 1988; by two daughters, Juanita Dowdy and Marilyn Bennett; and a son Dwayne Bennett.
Survviors include a daughter and son-in-law, Naomi and Tom Mann of Tamms; a sister, Doris Jennings of Edwardsville; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bennett were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms with the Rev. Dennis Clark officiating.
Interment was in Olive Branch Cemetery in Olive Branch.
Jones Funeral Home in Tamms was in charge of arrangements.
