Wildcats set to face 3-0 Nashville Friday

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Anna-Jonesboro will travel to face an undefeated Nashville team in high school football this Friday.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">“They’ve got a nice team,” said A-J coach Brett Detering of the 3-0 Hornets. “They have some outstanding kids.”</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Game time is set for 7 p.m. The game will be aired on WIBH radio in Anna.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Hornets are built around senior Royce Newman, 6-6, 260 pounds, who has verbally committed to play football at the University of Missouri next season.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Newman has played tight end and defensive end in high school.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">“He’s a very physical blocker,” Detering said. “We’ll have to keep him blocked.”</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Hornets have not been a one man team.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">“It’s been a total team effort,” Nashville coach Tim Kuhn said. “It’s not just Royce, everybody is contributing.”</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Kuhn said graduation losses devastated the team, but several have come forward. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Nashville is led by junior quarterback Andrew Kash, 5-10, 150 pounds. He was 5 of 7 passing for 48 yards in Nashville’s 24-13 win last week over Trenton Wesclin.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Kyle Schnitker, 5-8, 160 pounds, was the top receiver with 66 yards on 2 receptions. Newman picked up 33 yards on 3 receptions.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The backfield has been led by senior Hunter Schultze, 5-9, 165 pounds, who led the way by rushing for 99 yards on 12 carries last week. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Schnitker picked up 95 yards on 12 carries and senior Jaris Dalman, 5-11, 200 pounds, had 40 yards on 10 carries.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The offensive line is built around senior Nick Brown, 5-11, 190 pounds and senior Chase Stanowski, 5-10, 190 pounds.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">“Those two have really stepped up,” Kuhn said. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Hornet defense has been led by Newman, Schultze, Schnitker, Dalman and seniors Brown and Stanowski.</span></p>
