Wildcat soccer team defeats Herrin, Trenton

<p class="p1">The Wildcat boys' soccer team opened last week at Herrin and came away with a 4-2 win over the host Tigers.  </p><p class="p1">The Wildcats got on the board early when midfielder Ryan Stark, back into the line-up following his early season injury, took possession of the ball around midfield and found Zach Parr outside the 18-yard box.  </p><p class="p1">Zach dribbled past the lone defender and carried the ball toward the Tiger keeper before shooting it past him for the first Wildcat goal.  </p><p class="p1">Still in the first half, midfielder Elijah Haar took a free kick that sailed through the defense and under the arms of goalie for a 2-0 Wildcat advantage.  </p><p class="p1">The second half started much the same as the Cats’ Parr and Garrett Nimmo each scored for a 4-0 lead.  </p><p class="p1">But the Tigers would not be shut out as they added two late goals to round out the scoring.  </p><p class="p1">The Wildcats returned home with a 4-2 victory and improved to 3-3 on the season.</p><p class="p1">The Wildcats then played Trenton Wesclin at home on Saturday, Sept. 5 and came away with a 7-0 win.  </p><p class="p1">The host Cats scored early, four times in the first half, and had little pressure from the Warriors.</p><p class="p1">In all, six Wildcats scored a goal in the game: Parr had two and Stark, Haar, Nimmo, Jaryt Tripp and Abe Godinez added one each.  John Russell and Parr also had an assist each.  With the win, the Wildcats improved to 4-3 on the season.</p><p class="p1">“It was a good week for us. We had some guys return from some injuries and we really played well in the Wesclin game. Our passing game was the key to our scoring opportunities,” head coach Mark Boomer said.</p><p class="p1">The Wildcats were scheduled to play at Marion High School on Tuesday night.</p><p class="p2"> </p><p class="p2"> </p>
