Voice your opinion
To the editor,
To residents of Union County and the surrounding area, for many years our nation's government, corporations and other organizations tell us what they want us to know and hear.
Those that do or try or tell us what's really going on are slandered, threatened, mocked, etc. As will I for voicing my and many other peoples opinions.
I know many of you feel as I do because we are ordinary citizens with knowledge of what's going on in our nation, our state, our community but have to find our from other sources such as short wave radio stations with a few brave souls clueing us in, foreign news, word of mouth, other local papers in other counties or other states telling us what is happening here in our community.
Local example of this is why is it that The Southern Illinoisan had almost a full page article on the investigation and allegations, four weeks ago on Feb. 19th of a former foreman of our highway department?
My observation of a small article five weeks ago in our local paper is all we've seen.
Most of us in Union County get the Pub. or The Gazette-Democrat.
It appears our local media is doing the same thing our national media is doing, not telling the citizens what is really going on.
It seems that if you're politically involved, have money, know someone, or in with the good old boys, you can keep almost anything quiet and without the knowledge of us ordinary citizens information.
I hope to continue voicing my and other peoples local opinion concerning this and other matters that have come to light.
P.S. I encourage others to voice your opinion.
Sincerely, Jim Fisher, Dongola
