Union County softball players receive honors

Several Union County area high school athletes have been selected to the Southern Illinois Coaches Association All-South prep softball team.

Players from Cobden, Anna-Jonesboro and Shawnee earned postseason honors.

Cobden

Four players from the Class 1A state championship Cobden squad were selected, including DaCota Knop, Taylor Orsburn, Jenna Lehr and Kayla Quer-termous.

Knop, a junior, was a first-team South Egyptian Conference selection.

She led Cobden pitching with an 0.86 ERA and in total strikeouts with 100.

She was 12-3 on the mound with a save while allowing only 11 earned runs. She held opponents to a .188 batting average.

At the plate, she had a .395 batting average with a .485 slugging percentage. She had 30 hits in 76 at-bats with 7 doubles and 23 RBIs.

Orsburn was the other member of Cobden’s standout pitching duo.

She was 12-1 and had a 1.75 ERA with a save. She struck out 99 batters and walked 23 in 76 innings. She held opponents to a .151 batting average.

At the plate, she had a .507 batting average with 37 hits in 73 at -bats. She had 12 doubles, 5 triples and 27 RBIs.

Lehr, one of two seniors on the Cobden squad, was named to the South Egyptian Conference’s all-conference first team.

She had a .369 batting average with 31 hits in 84 at-bats. She had 7 doubles, a home run and a slugging percentage of .488.

Quertermous, a sophomore, who played injured during the latter part of the season, was an SEC all-conference pick.

She had a .430 batting average with 37 hits in 86 at-bats. She had 13 doubles, a home run and led the team with 32 RBIs.

She threw out 70 percent of base runners attempting to steal from her catching position.

Anna-Jonesboro

Anna-Jonesboro had four members selected, including Lindsey Patterson, Rachel Hayden, Kylee Lence and Jayda Rendleman.

Patterson, a sophomore, had a 13-1 pitching mark with a 0.56 ERA.

She allowed 9 earned runs in 111 2/3 innings. She was named to the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division first-team as a pitcher.

At the plate, she had a .413 batting average with 43 hits in 104 at-bats. She had 17 RBIs.

Hayden, a junior, was named first team all-conference as a pitcher.

She had a 13-3 pitching mark with a 0.83 ERA. She struck out 102 batters this season.

At the plate, she had a .404 batting average with 40 hits in 99 at-bats with 32 RBIs. She had 11 stolen bases and 6 home runs.

Lence, a senior, was an all-conference first team selection as a utility player.

She had a .373 batting average with 31 hits in 83 at-bats. She had 13 RBIs and committed only 6 errors all season.

Ninety percent of her pickoff attempts as a catcher were successful.

Rendleman, a sophomore, was a first-team all-conference infield  selection.

She had a .357 batting average with 35 hits in 98 at-bats. She had 31 RBIs, 15 stolen bases and added a home run.

Shawnee

Shawnee’s Kaylee Boston was selected to the squad. She was a first-team South Egyptian conference selection.

She had a .472 batting average with 5 home runs, 4 doubles and 4 triples. She had 26 hits this season and scored 20 runs.
