A Union County man faces multiple charges in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a child.
Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds reported Monday that Benson T. Poirier, 33, of 1870 Old Highway 51 North in rural Anna faces seven charges.
Poirier has been charged with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, all Class X felonies, and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, all Class 2 felonies.
Poirier is alleged to have committed acts of sexual conduct with children under 13 years of age between 2005 and 2012.
Poirier was arrested Friday, Oct. 19, by the Illinois State Police.
He was transported to the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro. He posted $50,000 bond and was released.
