Steven J. Powell

Steven J. Powell, 59, of Anna, formerly of Decatur died at 6:53 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015 in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was born in Decatur on Aug. 4, 1956.  He was the son of Willard and Freetta Powell.

He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 65 in Decatur.  He enjoyed working at the trade with his father.  Steve also enjoyed playing softball, golf, tennis, bowling and his dog, Smokey.

He is survived by his brother, Richard Powell; sisters, Judy Auld of Carbondale and Patti Wilcox of Ardsley, New York; sister-in-law, Jill Powell, brother-in-law, John Schiappacasse; sister-in-law, Julie Coffman; nephews, Jason Powell and Jake and Shaw Schiappacasse; nieces, Sara and Emma Powell, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home.

Funeral Services were Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10 a.m. with Ed Hoke officiating at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home.  Interment followed at the Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Animal Shelter and will be accepted at the funeral home.
