State's attorney reports three men sentenced
<p class="p1">Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds has reported the sentencing of three men on separate charges.</p><p class="p1"><strong>Domestic Battery</strong></p><p class="p1">Edmonds reported that Samuel L. Yates, 40, of Cobden, has been sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of domestic battery, which is a Class 4 felony. </p><p class="p1">Yates will also serve a four-year period of mandatory supervised release, formerly known as parole. </p><p class="p1">Yates was arrested on Dec. 13, 2015 after Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a rural Union County residence.</p><p class="p1"><strong>Possession of Stolen Vehicle</strong></p><p class="p1">Edmonds reported that Michael J. Mitchell, 38, of Vincennes, Indiana, has been sentenced to 54 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, which is a Class 2 felony. </p><p class="p1">Mitchell will also serve a two-year period of mandatory supervised release.</p><p class="p1">Mitchell was arrested on Oct. 31, 2015, by Illinois State Police after he stole a parked vehicle from an Interstate 57 rest area in rural Union County.</p><p class="p1"><strong>Intent to Deliver Meth</strong></p><p class="p1">Edmonds reported that Steven D. Meier, 57, of Jonesboro, has been sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on a charge of unlawful possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine, which is a Class X felony. </p><p class="p1">Meier will also serve a three-year period of mandatory supervised release. </p><p class="p1">Meier was arrested on Oct. 21, 2015, following a traffic stop by the Anna Police Department. The Union County Drug Task Force also assisted in the investigation.</p><p class="p2"> </p><p class="p2"> </p><p class="p2"> </p>
