Sole Camp for girls slated in Union County

Sole Camp, a summer running camp for girls in 4th through 8th grade, is coming to Union County starting the week of Aug. 15.

Camp participants will meet twice a week to run and gradually build up to a run in the Sole Challenge on the first Saturday of October with their coaches.

The camp aims to provide educational components on self-esteem, bullying and peer pressure, cyber-safety, physical activity and nutrition.

Every skill level is welcome. There is no cost to join, but participants are required to attend 10 of 14 sessions to have the Sole Challenge 5K fee waived.

New locations this year include Anna Junior High on Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 5:30 p.m. and the Cobden Community Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 5:30 p.m.

The camp is a branch of Sole Sistas of the 618, a Marion/Herrin group of running friends that fostered a community of women who want to build relationships and improve their physical health.
