Salem ends Cobden Legion team’s season with 4-3 win

Cobden was edged by Salem 4-3 for its second loss in the double elimination 5th Division junior baseball tournament at Pinckneyville Saturday, July 22.

“It was a good season,” Cobden baseball coach Dana Pearson said. “Cobden proved it could play with the good teams.”

In its final game, Cobden was held to six hits and only one error.

Jase Hutchason was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs to lead Cobden. Zane Nance, Bryce Reynolds, Landon Britt and Josh Burgess were each 1-for-3. Bayden Ditterline was 1-for-4.

Ditterline was the losing pitcher, scattering 8 hits to go with a walk and 4 strikeouts.

Cobden 13, Pinckneyville 3: Cody Wieseman was 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs to lead Cobden in the Saturday win.

Hutchason was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Landon Britt was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Burgess was 2-for-3. Nance was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Clayton Flamm was 1-for-2.

Ditterline, Hutchason, Wieseman, Alex Ramsey and Noah Franklin pitched in the win, combining to scatter 3 hits to go with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Cobden lost 4-3 to Effingham in its opening game. There were no game statistics for the game.

Cobden, which was the East 25th District champion, finished the season at 9-4 overall.
