A-J girls close regular season with 22-9 record
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team closed out its regular season with a 51-17 win over host Sparta in Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division action Thursday, Jan. 31.
Kristin Edmonds led the way for the Lady Wildcats with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Jaley Watkins added 8 points, 6 rebounds and an assist. Mikayla Bundren had 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Angel Helm had 5 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Sydney Heath had 5 points, 2 steals and an assist.
Morgan Wendling had 4 points, 2 steals and a rebound. Jacee Woodward had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Anna Hess had 3 points, 4 rebounds and a steal. Julia Ellis had 3 points and a rebound. Kaya Coleman had 2 points, a rebound and a block.
A-J 42, Du Quoin 26: The host Lady Wildcats pulled ahead early on their way to another conference win Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Ellis led the way with 11 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
Woodward had 6 points, 6 rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal. Heath had 6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
Helm had 5 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Bundren had 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Edmonds had 3 points, 4 rebounds and an assist. Wendling had 2 points, 2 steals and an assist.
Hess had 2 points and a rebound. Coleman had 2 rebounds and a block.
The Lady Wildcats, who finished the regular season with a 22-9 overall record and 6-4 in the conference, were scheduled to play in the Class 2A regional at Wayne City earlier this week.
A-J was slated to play Monday’s winner between Fairfield/Wayne City on Tuesday.
