Cobden High School cheerleading squad attends NCA cheer camp
Cobden High School varsity cheerleaders attended an NCA Cheer Camp held at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., July 11-14.
This was the first NCA camp the squad had ever attended.
Twenty-five other teams were at the camp from various other areas, including Hazelwood, Mo., Columbia, Mo., and many St. Louis area schools.
The squads which attended the camp ranged in size from 25 to 30 members down to Cobden’s squad of eight in its division.
During the final evaluation and awards on the last day, the squad earned the following honors:
The spirit stick, four superior ribbons, the stunt SAFE award, a first place trophy in the game day top team competition and the Herkie Award, which was awarded to the best squad at camp as voted on by the NCA camp staff – the award consisted of a plaque and Gatorade coolers.
The squad also had four All-American nominations and Amanda Smith earned All-American recognition.
Cobden also earned a bid to NCA Nationals.
The Cobden squad was able to fund most of the trip with proceeds raised from baseball and softball concessions, as well as a few smaller fund-raisers.
