SIFL baseball team opens season with 3-1 record

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Several players from A-J baseball have formed a team with Southern Illinois Fall League, SIFL, again this year and they are off to a great start with a 3-1 record.  </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The SIFL plays on Sundays during August and September at different locations throughout Southern Illinois.  </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The A-J team consists of seniors Brayden Benefield, Jared Collier, Garrett Goines, Blake Klett, Isaac Pender and Collin Prather; junior Sean Plott; sophomores Bryce Osman, Hunter Ralls and Noah Smith; and freshman Conner Jerolds.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The team is coached by Travis Smith.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The team started its season Sunday, Aug. 9, in Dowell. The first game against the Sundawgs ended with a 4-0 win for the A-J team.  </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The second game against Woodlawn ended with an 11-2 win for the A-J team.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Week two of play was Sunday, Aug. 16, at Ava.  The first game against West Frankfort ended with a 6-5 win for the A-J team.  </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The second game against Ava brought A-J its first loss of the season with a final score of 13-7. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Next Sunday, the A-J team is scheduled to travel to Johnston City to play Johnston City at 10 a.m. and Nashville at noon. </span></p>
