Shawnee softball coach expects big things this fall

The Shawnee High School softball team’s opponents should see a competitive team on the field this fall.

“We’re very athletic,” Shawnee softball coach Mindy Jameson said. “I expect big things from our team.”

“I’m excited about the season, we’re such a versatile team.”

Seniors returning from last year are infielder/pitcher Geri Ellis and first baseman Jonnie Ellet.

Juniors on the squad are catcher/infielder Morgan Kennedy, short/third baseman Kaylee Boston, outfielder Tuesday Solpietro and outfielder/infielder Brittany Lillibridge.

Sophomores expected to contribute are first baseman/outfielder Elena Houston, out-fielder Jessie Reynolds and pitcher/infielder Haley Murphy.

A strong class of freshmen are on the roster, including catcher/infielder/outfielder Reagan Brown, utility/outfielder Taylor Ellis, pitcher/utility player Maggie Morgan, pitcher/infielder Bethany McMahan and infielders Katelyn Glodo and Katilyn Baltzell.

Freshmen April Kulah and Jordan Johnson are injured.

Jameson expects a lot of competition in practice for different positions with her athletic group.

“We’ll focus on fundamentals,” Jameson said. “We’re so young this year.”

The Lady Reds open their season at home against Century  Monday, Aug. 31.
