Shawnee edges Cobden 4-3 in high school baseball

Nick Crane had a game-winning hit in the 12th inning to lift visiting Shawnee to a 4-3 victory over Cobden in high school baseball action Thursday, Aug. 30.

Crane drove in Aiden McMahan, who began the inning by hitting a triple.

Brandon Pind led the Redskins by going 2-for-2 at the plate and Gavyn Ellet was 3-for-6.

McMahan hit a home run on the first pitch of the game and was 2-for-5. Crane was 1-for-6 and Adam Pennington was 1-for-5.

Ellet and McMahan pitched in the win. Ellet pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed 2 hits to go with 6 strikeouts and 4 walks. McMahan pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed 2 hits to go with 13 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Garrett Marks was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI to lead Cobden. Sam Cohen was 1-for-3.

Zach Moore pitched 7 innings for Cobden and allowed 5 hits to go with 15 strikeouts and 2 walks. Marks pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 hits to go with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Shawnee, 1-1, is scheduled to face Teutopolis Friday in a game that will be played at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Cobden fell to 1-3 overall.
