Ruby G. Yates

Ruby G. Yates, 98, of Cobden, died at 8:58 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1911, in Cobden, the daughter of William and Lona Nicholson Garner.

She married Wilburn W. Yates on Aug. 25, 1928. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1971.

Mrs. Yates is survived by five children, Eva Lucille “Tillie” Rich of Carbondale, Shirley (Jesse Lee) Aldridge of Cobden, Glenda (Ernest) Acklin of Carbondale, Gale (Thomas) Shackleton of DeSoto, and Dale (Diane) Yates of Aurora, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilburn W. Yates; one sister, Vivian Yates; and four brothers, Fred, Ed, Milo and Carl Garner.

She was a member of Water Valley Christian Church near Cobden.

Funeral services for Mrs. Yates were at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Interment was in Cobden Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Water Valley Christian Church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden was in charge of arrangements.
