<p class="p1">Roger "Coon Hunter" Cavness, 59, of Grand Tower, died at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, surrounded by his friends and family at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.</p><p class="p1">Funeral services for Mr. Cavness were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Lighthouse Christian Assembly in Grand Tower with Pastors Peggy Camp and Jack Thorton officiating. Burial was in Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower.</p><p class="p1">Memorials can be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.</p><p class="p1">He was born on Nov. 15, 1956, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Walter and Margaret Gregory Cavness.</p><p class="p1">He married Frances Lynn Taylor on July 20, 1977, in Murphysboro.</p><p class="p1">Survivors include his wife, Fran Cavness of Grand Tower; a daughter, Melissa Cavness and fiance Bill Vest of Grand Tower; a son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Dianna Smith of Anna; five grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Darien, Hunter, Haleigh, Amber and Justin; two sisters, Jane Beard of Centralia and Donna Cavness of Wolf Lake; one brother, Lynn Cavness of McClure; one special brother-in-law, Vernon Harris of Centralia; one step-brother, Jerry Speers of Du Quoin; and several nieces, nephews, special friends and family members.</p><p class="p1">He was preceded in death by his parents,Walter and Marybelle Cavness, and Margaret Bray; two sisters, Pat Smith and Linda Harris; and one brother, Kenneth Cavness.</p><p class="p1">He worked as a farmer for many years and later worked as a sheet rock installer in the construction trade until disabled. He was known for his time spent as the Grand Tower Levee commissioner. His expertise with the levee was legendary and will never be replaced. He enjoyed outdoor activities and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was of the Baptist faith.
