Robert “Bob” Lee Mathis

Robert “Bob” Lee Mathis, 78, of McClure, died at 5:19 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Dec. 15, 1931, in Flora, Texas, the son of Herbert and Lily Lynn Mathis.

He married Donna Kee on May 22, 1965, in Ware.

He was of the Pentecostal faith.

He loved to play the steel guitar and was a fan of country music. He was a member of a band named BVD’s.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of McClure; five sons, Michael (Brooksie) Mathis of Indianapolis, Ind., Jim (Jeannie) Branch of McClure, David (Tina) Mathis of Anna, Bob Mathis of Anna, Brad (Lisa) Mathis of Evansville, Ind.; two daughters, Toni (Chris) Livengood of Anna, Donnetta (Tim) Plunkett of Fort Myers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Wayne Mathis of San Antonio, Texas and Ralph Martin of Vienna; three sisters, Sue Bresett of Herrin, Iola Baker of Dallas, Texas, and Pat Smith of Sparta; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Don Mathis.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Jonesboro Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Jim Suits and the Rev. Billy Carter officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola.

Memorials can be made to the Jonesboro Pentecostal Church.

Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.
