Pulaski County official named
<p class="p1">James A. "Jim" Flummer was appointed and sworn in as state's attorney of Pulaski County on Dec. 18.</p><p class="p1">Flummer was appointed to serve the unexpired term of Grayson Gile, who resigned as state's attorney effective at the end of November.</p><p class="p1">The appointment, which extends through November 2016, was made by unanimous vote of the Pulaski County Board of Commissioners, after careful consideration of a number of applicants.</p><p class="p1">To ensure continuity of prosecution during the interim between Gile's resignation and the appointment of a successor, Presiding Judge William Thurston had appointed Julian Watkins to the temporary office of special prosecutor.</p><p class="p1">Flummer is a 1971 graduate of the Southern Illinois University School of Business, and a 1974 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law. </p><p class="p1">He has practiced in Pulaski County for nearly 40 years, and has extensive experience in both criminal law and local government law.</p><p class="p1">Flummer previously served as city attorney for many local municipalities, including the City of Cairo, the Village of Thebes, the City of Mounds, the City of Mound City, the Village of Pulaski and the Village of Karnak. </p><p class="p1">He has been public defender in Alexander County, Pulaski County, Union County, Johnson County and Massac County. </p><p class="p1">He served as state's attorney of Alexander County in 1976.</p><p class="p1">Watkins graduated from the University of Illinois in 2008 with a degree in business administration and marketing, and from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2011.</p>
