This week, some random thoughts, questions, meanderings and other witty observations...

Halloween was Saturday night. In keeping with tradition, The Other Half and yours truly sat out on our front porch and waited for our usual several hundred trick-or-treaters to show up.

In a word, we were a little bit disappointed. Mother Nature did not cooperate. Halloween night was drizzly, damp and a bit on the cool side. We figured that we had about a hundred visitors, including some emojis, and, good grief, Charlie Brown.

I don't like it getting dark at 5 p.m. Speaking of the time change, why did the first Monday morning in Standard Dark Too Early Time have to be so cloudy and foggy?

Why is it November already?

Where is Thanksgiving dinner this year?

How can my youngest child be, well, that much older, already?

Why are there so many books out there that I want to read?

There was entirely too much blue on the uniforms of the teams which played in this year's World Series. The team which won the World Series could have been Royals. Oh, wait, the team was the Royals.

Why do people keep telling me that I "need" to be on Facebook? And Twitter? And Instagram?

Why would I want to spend $600 on a phone?

Where do squirrels go at night?

I've already reached the point that I'm one of those folks who are of "a certain age." What happens next?

Should I continue to have bacon on my bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich? To be honest with you, I've always wondered about the point of the lettuce and tomato anyway. Bacon, it seems, can kill us. Then again, it seems that anything we like, or like to do, is hazardous to our health.

Speaking of tomatoes, I'm sure going to miss fresh, home-growed 'maters.

Is it just me, or is the whole world crazy?

I've put this off as long as I can. Congratulations to all of you Cubs fans. Your team was really good this year. And, in my humble opinion, they are going to get better.

Back in the spring, I wrote a column which suggested that the Cubs would make the playoffs in 2015. The column never made it to print. Oh, well. That happens sometimes.

Then, when the Cubs actually made the playoffs, my fear was that they would end up playing the Cardinals. Which they did. And we saw how that turned out.

That being said...a couple of weeks ago, after the Cubs had beaten the Cardinals (ouch) in the playoffs, I was pretty sure that my feet were feeling a little nippy. Could it be that the nether world was freezing? Not to worry, though. The Mets did their part to make sure that the universe returned to its rightful balance. And that made my feet warm again. Can't wait 'til next season.
