Paul “Pete” Dunning

Paul “Pete” Dunning, 89, of Tamms, died at 1:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

He was born in Tamms on Jan. 28, 1923, the son of Frank and Lena Gossett Dunning.

He was a member of Tamms Baptist Church, the Mounds Senior Citizens Center and formerly the Tamms Senior Citizens, where he played in the kitchen band. He also belonged to the Moose Club in Des Plaines.

He liked gardening, mowing and working in his yard, and dancing. He liked to help people in the community, delivering meals, taking the elderly to doctor appointments or getting their groceries. He liked eating at the Kozy Korner in Olive Branch.

He is survived by his two sons, James (Sheryl) Dunning and John (Laura) Dunning, both of Elk Grove Village; two daughters, Janet Dunning Myers (Jerry Swan) of Tamms and Jennifer Dunning Stone of Streator; four grandchildren, Ben and Zach Dunning, Kelton and Eva Myers; one sister, Irma Lee Jones of Franklin, Tenn.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milford and Tom Dunning; two sisters, Lillian Dunning Wright and Mary Dunning Daly; and three half-sisters, Ima, May and Wilma.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating, followed by full military honors. Interment was in the Jonesboro Cemetery.
