PAST plans golf scramble Friday in Anna

The PAST organization is planning to host a “Links for Lincoln” golf scramble Friday, Sept. 18.

The scramble will be played at the Union County Country Club golf course in Anna. The event starts at 1 p.m.

Teams of four are anticipated, but individuals can register to be placed in a foursome.

Registration fee is $60 per person. Individuals, organizations and businesses can sponsor a hole for $50.

Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Don Denny will prepare meat for lunch. The ladies of PAST will provide desserts.

The Links for Lincoln golf scramble will assist the not-for-profit PAST organization in its project to purchase and preserve “the house where Lincoln stayed” on South Main Street in Anna.

Abraham Lincoln stayed with his friend, D.L. Phillips, in 1858 when he visited Union County to debate with Stephen Douglas.

PAST hopes to purchase the house to archive historical information about Lincoln and the area. The house also would be open to the public for receptions and events.
