Otis W. Monahan
Otis W. Monahan, 72, of Carbondale, and formerly of Thebes, died at 4:08 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
He was born in Caddagap, Ark., on Jan. 29, 1939, the son of Lee and Ruth Cook Monahan.
He first married Carol Johnson of DeSoto, mother of Becky and David. He then married Sandra Adams, his wife of 35 years, on March 19, 1976.
He graduated from Thebes High School in 1957. He retired from Pennent-Johnstone Electrical Supply. He was a member and a former president of the Carbondale Eagles Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and liked fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Carbondale; his mother, Ruth Monahan of Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Becky Monahan of DeSoto; one son, David Monahan of Carbondale; one grandson, Scott Lockart of DeSoto; one brother, Jimmie (Marvalee) Monahan of Thebes; two sisters, Ernestine (Raymond) Weber of Dexter, Mo., and Deborah Monahan of Cape Girardeau; three brothers-in-law, Tommy Adams of Carbondale, Don Adams of Murphysboro and James (JoAnne) Adams of Denton, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Shaya of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Patricia (Bob) Richards of Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Joel Monahan.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Sabo and Dustin Easton officiating. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.
