July 28...clouds billowed into the sky over Cobden during the evening. The photographer (that would be me) did a little magic in Photoshop to highlight the steeple at the First Baptist Church in Cobden...just to give an idea of the immensity of the clouds.July 30...the sky over Cobden after a round of stormy weather.

The Journey Through Life is just peachy...

Once again this week, we’ll be offering a little bit of this...and a little bit of that...and some pics of the sky...

...a “weather map” posted online shortly before 7 o’clock Tuesday evening, July 30, was rather interesting. “Watches, Warnings & Advisories” for parts of Southern Illinois (including Union County), Southeast Missouri and Western Kentucky were featured. The map showed a tornado warning...a severe thunderstorm warning...a flash flood warning...a severe weather statement...an excessive heat warning...a severe thunderstorm watch...a heat advisory...a flood advisory...a flood watch...a special weather statement...a hazardous weather outlook...and not a single word about the wind chill or snow...

...by the way...our local weather observer reported that we had no snow in July...

...as you may have noticed, I like to take photos of squirrels. They’re cute. Silly. Photogenic. I’ve not quite figured out why the critters seem to need to scamper higher in a tree when I take pictures of them munching on a treat of some sort. I guess they must think I want to steal their goodies...

...speaking of critters...

...last Friday, your writer went on a shopping trip. Such adventures are not really my cup of tea, but sometimes they just have to happen.

...while wandering aimlessly through the aisles of a local retailer, I experienced what we’ll just call a “first” on a shopping trip.

...well, I think it was a first...because until Friday, I had never seen a raccoon in a shopping cart being pushed by a customer. As you might guess, the raccoon was getting a lot of attention. I stopped and had a brief chat with the human being who was accompanying the critter, which, it turns out, is a pet...that apparently likes to go shopping...

...another critter note...I have finally been noticing cicada choruses during recent sultry summer evenings. I am pretty sure, though, there are not millions...or billions...of the bug-eyed bugs out looking for love...

...on a personal note...The Other Half is “back home” after a rather lengthy absence...and a bittersweet ending to a chapter on The Journey Through Life.

...we’ll close with a peachy thought...

...the Cobden Peach Festival is coming up this Friday and Saturday. A lot...as in a whole lot...has transpired in your writer’s life since the last Peach Festival which took place a year ago. This week, we’re offering a bit of a “tribute” to a former toiler at The Paragraph Factory in honor of the Peach Festival... We’re going to once again say that the weather for the big celebration in Cobden should be just peachy...

...enough for this week. Make plans to attend the Peach Festival in Cobden. And be sure to look up in the sky...you just might see some really neat clouds...
