William Lee Reeves
William Lee Reeves, born Nov. 17, 1953, passed Feb. 14, 2025.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Adell Reeves, older brother, Michael, sister-in-law, Marj Reeves, brother-in-law, Alex Paull, nieces, Blake Reeves and Esther Reeves and nephew, Levi Nelson.
Survivors include fiancé, Sharon Icenogle, siblings, Sue (David) Fischer, Jim (Susan) Reeves, Randall Reeves, Kevin Reeves, Ronald (Linda Raters) Reeves, Janice Paull, and Steven (Paula) Reeves, nephews, Daniel Fischer, Nick Fischer, Michael (Lucinda) Reeves, Adam (Ara) Paull, Cameron Schwenk, and nieces, Kimberly (Sam) Penn, Julie (Lee) Nelson, Rebekah (Henry) Hampton, Sarah (Ian McCall) Paull, Brooke (Alex) White, Rachael Paull, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Born in Murphysboro, Bill was raised in Gorham and Murphysboro. He grew up hunting, fishing and hiking all over Southern Illinois with his siblings and friends. He especially enjoyed fishing for crappie and bluegill from Lake Murphysboro and Bob Hanson's farm pond and hunting waterfowl with Tom Clark.
Bill was a member of First Christian Church in Murphysboro where he studied with the Men’s Group and 55 & Alive, and was also a long time Lions Club member in Cobden and Murphysboro.
He also spent several summers traveling with the Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corp, and enjoyed going to Drum Corp shows, watching the Cardinals, Salukis and Murphy Red Devils.
Bill graduated from Murphysboro High School, John A. Logan College and earned his teaching degree from SIU Carbondale. He taught Jr. High woodshop and math at North County Jr. High School in Bonne Terre Mo., Chester Jr. High, and Anna Jr. High, where he also coached basketball, scholar bowl, and organized a Math-a-Thon for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Bill retired from Anna Jr. High in 2012.
The Family would like to thank all Bill’s caregivers who were so kind to him over the last few years, especially Kathy Browder.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Crain Pleasant Grove –Murdale Funeral Home at 31 Memorial Drive in Murphysboro. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. with interment to follow the funeral service at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and/or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
