William H. Cerney Sr.
William H. Cerney Sr., 96, of Shorewood, died Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at his residence.
He was born in Saratoga. He resided in Shorewood for more than 60 years.
He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II.
He was a retired electrician, formerly employed by Meyerhoff Electric for several years.
Mr. Cerney was a former building inspector and trustee for the Village of Shorewood and was the building inspector in Minooka as well.
He loved surfing the internet and staying connected by using social media.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Barbara Lee (Myers) Cerney of Shorewood; his children, Vickie Cerney of Decatur, William (Roxanne) Cerney Jr. of Joliet and Ronald (Judy) Cerney of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dora Lence Cerney; two children, Rhonda Painter and Debbie Cerney in infancy; and by 11 siblings.
Visitation for Bill Cerney was Wednesday, July 1, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in Joliet, from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m.
Attendance was limited to 50 people in the building at a time; face masks, limited contact and physical distancing were required.
A private family interment followed at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
