Shirley Lee Penrod

Shirley Lee Penrod, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away on Aug. 25, 2024.

Shirley Tibbs was born on Sept. 12, 1938, in Jonesboro, the daughter of Lindsey and Mamie Gibbs Tibbs.

Shirley spent her youth in and around Anna, where she met her future husband, Bobby Penrod.

Shirley moved to the Flint, Mich., area in 1955 with her family.

Bob and Shirley were married on July 16, 1955 in Durand, Mich. They were married for 68 years when he passed on April 3, 2024.

She was an exceptional homemaker, with her family and her Lord being her priorities. She had varied interests, including reading, puzzle books, gardening and camping. She was a wonderful cook and an exceptional housekeeper.

Shirley is survived by her children, Bobby Penrod Jr. of Flint, Mich., Ricky (Mary) Penrod of Swartz Creek, Mich., and Cheryl (Wade) Edwards of Critz, Va.

She leaves behind three grandsons, Jeffrey (Brianna) Penrod of Swartz Creek, Mich., Jason (Lindi) Penrod of Navarre, Fla., and Anthony Courtney of North Carolina; a sister, Janice (Frank) Murray of Anna; and a special sister-in-law, Esther Penrod. She also leaves 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Penrod; father; mother; beloved sister Geraldine (Kirby) Patterson; beloved brother-in-law Junior (Esther) Penrod; brothers Vernon Tibbs, Charlie Tibbs, Bill Graves and Leon Graves; and a sister, Donna Bishop.
