Shirley Ann Diggs

Shirley Ann Diggs, age 87, of Cairo, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025 at her home.

She was born on July 19, 1938 to James Lloyd and Josephine Marie (Shelton) Diggs in Cairo, Ill.

Shirley was a graduate of Cairo High School and then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Art from Southern Illinois University. 

She worked as a Graphic Artist for Magna-Tel in Cape Girardeau, Mo. for over 40 years. 

She was a lifelong member of Tigert Memorial Methodist Church in Cairo. 

Shirley was an outdoors person, an avid birdwatcher and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. She loved her dogs and cats. Shirley was a supporter of the arts as well as animal rights.

Survivors include her longtime friend, Carolyn Ponting; Carolyn’s daughter, Toni (Randy) Foster and their children, Raelyn Rigdon, Erin Aguila, and their grandchildren, Drew and Alex Rigdon, and Tristan Aguila; nieces and nephews, Bryan (Rebecca) Lamburth, Joyce Jones, Debbie McNulty, David (Linda) Moreland, and Jimmy Moreland, great nieces and nephews, Jamie Lamburth, Ashley (Justin) Williamson as well as other great nieces and great nephews.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her three sisters, Mary Lou Moreland, Bonnie Jones, and Patricia Lamburth; and one brother, James Lloyd Diggs, Jr., who was killed in the Korean War.

A graveside service was held on Friday, Nov. 28 with Rev. Doug Atkins officiating at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Ill. with interment following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to Tigert Memorial Methodist Church in Cairo, Ill.

Crain Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
