Shelby Kay Rushing
Shelby Kay Rushing, 77, of Dongola, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at her home.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1946, in Dongola, the daughter of Charley B. and Agnes M. Brust Johnson.
She married Kenneth Rushing on Jan. 26, 1963. She and Kenneth enjoyed 57 years together. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2020.
She is survived by her children, Penny (Randy) Hindman of Anna and Edwin (Cindy) Rushing of Dongola; grandchildren Rebecca (Thomas) Corbit, Remington Hindman, Journee Rushing, James Calvin Jones, Austin Rider and Taylor Rushing; great-grandchildren Brinley, Natilyn, Easton, Ayla and Owen Corbit; brother Charles (Kelly) Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and her beloved companion, Pearl.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son Michael Rushing; grandson Jordan Michael Houston; sister Louetta Houseman; and brother, David Johnson Sr.
She worked at the Florsheim Shoe Factory in Anna and later owned and operated Kay’s Euro Tan in Dongola. She enjoyed sewing and quilting before being limited by her diminishing eyesight. Kay was sweet but stubborn and she fiercely supported her family. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Funeral services for Shelby Kay Rushing were at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Wesley Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Christian Chapel Cemetery in Dongola.
