Sammy Lee Bryan

Sammy Lee Bryan, 76, of Dongola, formerly of Peoria, passed away, Wednesday, Feb. 12, at his daughter’s home. 

He was born July 26, 1948 in Peoria, the son of George Merill and Maude Viola (Fox) Bryan. He married Mary Vogel on May 29, 1969.

Sammy is survived by his loving wife, Mary Bryan of Dongola; daughter, Kathy Bryan (Steve Hornbeak) of Anna; son, Sammy Bryan (Teri Hogan) of Carbondale; son in law, Ryan Schubert of Pekin; grandchildren, Rachel, Riley and Sophia Bryan; step-granddaughter, Jaclyn (David) Frank; step-great grandchildren, Asher and Violet Frank; sister, Gennie (Bill) Steele of Mapleton; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Jane “P.J.” Schubert; and three brothers, Claud Youngren, Richard Youngren, and George P. Bryan.

Sammy retired from Keystone Steel and Wire in Peoria where he worked for forty-two years. 

Back in the late 60’s Sammy was a member of the band Changing Times. He was a talented musician, playing the drums and strumming guitar. He shared his love of music with his family, playing and singing, just enjoying everyone and having a good time. 

Sammy enjoyed mowing on his property and was an avid animal lover. He loved his family dearly and was a good husband and father. He will be deeply missed. 

A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at KiKi’s Coffeehouse in downtown Anna.
