Roger ‘Dale’ Douglas
Roger “Dale” Douglas, 72, of Karnak, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at Parkview Nursing Home in Paducah, Ky., after a battle with cancer.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1952, in Metropolis, the son of Clyde and Opal Basham Douglas.
Dale, known as Roger at his work, was a 1970 graduate of Century High School in Ullin. He attended Shawnee Community College and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Southern Illinois University in 1974.
Other than working briefly in Johnston City, Mr. Douglas lived his whole life in Karnak. He was first employed at Trunkline Gas Company, but later retired from EEI after 20-plus years of service.
He was a humble, honest, kind-hearted, private person who loved to tease and laugh. Having never married, he was especially close to his brother Clyde Jr., nephew Jeff and niece Julie.
In typical Douglas fashion, he loved to hunt and fish and could often be found in the woods or on the “river ditch” bank.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Opal Douglas, and his nephew, Jeff Douglas.
He will be dearly missed by his brother Clyde Jr. and wife Bonnie; his niece Julie (Douglas) Birrer, husband Brannon and their children Taryn, Tori (Josh), Tyson (Annika) and Thane; Jeff’s wife Cindy and their children, Mitchell and Samantha; his uncle Wayne (Darlene) Douglas and his Basham and Douglas cousins.
The family thanks the staff at Parkview and Mercy Health Paducah Hospice with their league of volunteer angels. A special thanks to Stan Basham, Linda Kay (Larry) Bailey, Joe (Paula) Basham and Sara (Brandon) Burd for their love, attention and immeasurable help on Dale’s behalf and for being available to him when those of us who are so far away couldn’t be.
A special thanks to Wilson’s Funeral Home in Karnak for their help with funeral preparations.
Graveside services honoring the life of Roger Dale Douglas were at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Anderson Cemetery in Boaz, with the Rev. Gerell Cain officiating.
