Philip C. Hodges

Philip C. Hodges, 69, of Cairo, died at 10:11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1953, in Cairo, the son of Herbert and Opal Lucas Hodges.

He married Doris Davis on Nov. 8, 1973. She survives. 

He was a 1971 graduate of Cairo High School. He served on the Cairo City Council for two terms; he oversaw the fire, parks and street departments over the course of his tenure. 

He was a businessman who lived to work and had several businesses throughout his career. He started Fill-Up Mart Inc. in 1982, Butcher Block Inc. in 1984 and Fill-Up Mart Vending in 1987. 

Mr. Hodges attended the Salvation Army Church as a youth. He later was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife; sons Bryan Hodges and Glenn (Alisha) Hodges; his mother, Opal Hodges; grandsons Nicholas and Zachary Hodges; a granddaughter, Violet Hodges; sisters Janice (Ronald) Sutton, Kaye Allison and Vickie Caldwell; and brothers Michael and Byron Hodges.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will take place at a later date at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Villa Ridge. Memorials can be made to the Cairo Public Library.
