Oleta Slusher Brown

Oleta Slusher Brown, 96, of Ullin, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

She was born on April 21, 1926, the daughter of Arthur and Flora Jessie Lawson Slusher.

She was married to  Norse (Dutch) Brown on Jan. 7, 1945. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2001.

Throughout her career, Mrs. Brown worked as a waitress at Glen’s in Cairo before transitioning to a position at Huffman Insurance Agency. 

After her retirement, she made food deliveries from Ullin Foods to Cache Valley Apartments, delivering to “all the old people” who were younger than her. 

In her spare time, she enjoyed flower gardening and ceramics. She was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Ullin.

Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Ozment (Craig Doctorman); a son, Mark (Crystal) Brown; grandchildren Chris (Chrissie) Ozment, Jesse Wallace, Brent Kesler, Trent (Lelah) Kesler, Tyler Brown, Beth (Jerald) Windings and Myndi (Randy) Duke; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Mike Brown; a daughter, Connie Pair; a grandson, Dennis Sexton; two sisters, Shelby Forrestor and Eleanor Ledbetter; and one brother, Richard Slusher.

A funeral service honoring the life of Oleta Slusher Brown was held Monday, June 27, at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin at noon, with the Rev. Clint Nale officiating. Interment followed at Ullin Cemetery.

Crain Funeral Home in Ullin was in charge of arrangements.
