Norman “Bud” Powles

Norman “Bud” Powles, age 58, of Dongola, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025 surrounded by his family.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1967 to Marvin and Sandra (Stokes) Powles in Waukegan, Ill. 

On Jan. 16, 1987, he married Joyce Chapman and they have shared over 38 years together.

Bud served in the United States Army for four years and worked in the medical field while in the army. 

Bud had a paper route for the Southern Illinoisian for 28 years and then he went to work for Walgreens in Anna. 

Bud loved martial arts, especially Hapkido. His passion was creating music, playing video games, and working complex puzzles and was a chess strategist. 

Bud deeply cared for his family and his cats. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; children, Christopher (Brandy) Powles and Seth Powles; one grandson, Jakob Powles; his mother, Sandra; his siblings, Donald (Kathy) Powles, Pamela (Russ) Marsh, Bridget (Jim) Harris, Marvin Powles, Jr., and Carolyn (David) Hironimous; along with nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Norman is preceded in death by his father, Marvin.

No services will be held at this time.

The cremation of Norman “Bud” Powles will be personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral Home.

Crain Funeral Home in Dongola is in charge of arrangements.
