Mickie Lynn Smith Lacer

Mickie Lynn Smith Lacer, of Vienna, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1970, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, the daughter of Gene and Donna Johnson Smith.

She was a member of Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna and she truly loved her church home. 

She had received her Associates Degree in Nursing and was a Registered Nurse (Advanced Acute Dialysis) with DaVita. She was passionate about her work with DaVita. 

She was an intense animal lover with a huge heart for all types of animals and had numerous fur babies over the years. But, the dearest would be her long haired Chihuahua named Matari.

Survivors include her husband, Gregory Lacer Sr. of Vienna; father Gene Smith and stepmother Carolyn Smith of Manteno; step-children Melissa (Cheyenne) Craft-Lacer of Savannah, Ga., Jessica Ginnie (Shawn) Kyle of Orlando, Fla., Gregory Lacer Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jordan Lacer of Philadelphia, Pa., and Marcella Lacer of Orlando, Fla.; sisters Kim (Don) Canada of Metropolis, Darla (Phil) Michel of Elizabethtown and Christina (Rich) Samuelson of Bourbonnais;  step-sisters Debra (Gary) Gullquist of Manteno and Carol (David) Hoffman of St. Anne; Greg’s parents, Dwight and Linda Gill; and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by her BFF, Julie Palmateer.

Along with her mother, Donna (Johnson) Mester, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Robert “Bob” Mester; brother Guy Smith; niece Misty Fritz;  and step-sister Tammy Gholson. 

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 21, at Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna, with the Rev. Darryl Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery in Manteno.

Flowers are welcome, but those who prefer to make a memorial contribution may do so to Project Hope (Animal Rescue), 1698 W. 10th St., Metropolis, Ill. 62960.

The cremation of Mickie Lynn (Smith) Lacer will be personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral Home.
