Melvin J. Brown
Melvin J. Brown, 90, of Anna, died at 12:17 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at his home in Anna.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1929, in Cypress, the son of Melvin Sr. and Grace Brown.
He married Norma Halter on July 1, 1950.
He served in the U.S. Army for three years, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
He first went to work for McDonnell Douglas and then for Boeing, where he retired as a supervisor after 20 years.
He loved St. Louis Cardinals baseball and collected baseball memorabilia. He also enjoyed collecting stamps and talking about baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Norma D. Brown of Anna; a son, Keith Edward Brown of Anna; granddaughters Jennifer Brown of St. Peters, Mo., Chasity (Casey) Muehlbauer of Warrenton, Mo., and Madison Brown of Anna; grandsons Dustin Brown of Foristell, Mo., and Melvin R. Brown of Cobden; great-grandchildren Riley Brown and Adrianna Hollaway; a brother, Norman Lee (Marie) Brown of Anna; a sister-in-law, Shirley Brown of Anna; nieces Carmea Lynn Brown and Kelly (Bill) Needler of Mt. Vernon; cousins Cody Brown of Lick Creek, Larry (Marie) Johnson of Elgin and Jason Johnson of Anna; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Brown; a sister, Devonna Johnson; a brother-in-law, DeeRay Johnson; and a cousin, Gregory Johnson.
A memorial gathering was held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Cypress Cemetery.
