Mary Ann Courtright
Mary Ann Courtright, 96, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at home, with her loving daughter and granddaughters by her side.
She was born on July 23, 1928, in Cobden, the daughter of Lee and Pearl Hartline Cavaness.
She married Jimmie Carl Courtright on Jan. 29, 1949, in Jonesboro; together they shared 71 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2020.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane St. Arbor; granddaughter Natalie Linton; great-granddaughters Erin and Maci Linton, all of Jonesboro; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmie Courtright; son Terry Wayne Courtright; grandson Landon Linton; son-in-law Kevin St. Arbor; brothers Lloyd Leon and Earl Cavaness; and a sister, Gladys Hertz.
She was a member of the Jonesboro United Methodist Church for many years. She was an incredible seamstress, handmaking wedding and formal dresses for anyone who would ask. She loved to cook and bake; her wedding cakes were always a favorite. She was a member of the quilting club and judged the sewing and needlepoint entries at the Union County Fair. She dedicated years of service as an election judge in Union County, during a time when ballots were still counted by hand.
For 33 years, Mary Ann worked for G.C. Murphy in downtown Anna as their fabrics manager. She later went to work at Walmart for 14 years in their fabrics department. It was amazing to watch her measure yards of fabric by eye, never having to use a yardstick, it would always be just what the customer wanted.
She and Jimmie loved to travel after retirement; among their favorites were Hawaii, Europe, Alaska, Branson and Gatlinburg.
Funeral services for Mary Ann Courtright were at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Jonesboro United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bobbie Schultz officiating. Interment immediately followed in the Jonesboro Cemetery.
