Martha Joan Tweedy Rider

Martha Joan Tweedy Rider, 79, of Dongola, died Friday, March 6, 2020, at her home.

She was born on March 25, 1940, in Anna, the daughter of Beulah Harrell Tweedy and Victor Tweedy. 

She married Melvin Rider on March 14, 1959, in Cobden. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2006. 

She was a member of the Dongola First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a 4-H leader for 13 years.

Survivors include her four daughters, Martha (Greg) Samples, Jennifer Rider, Cynthia (Raymond) Massey and Regina (Harold) Birch; one son, Matthew (Melissa) Rider; eight grandchildren, Richard Birch, Hope (Eric) Huels, Jonathan (Jaime), Justin, and Julie Samples, Janelle and Kimberlyn Massey, and Bethany Rider; one great-granddaughter, Kaydence Huels; one sister, Frances (Wayne) Calhoun; two nephews, Darrell and Randy Calhoun; and one niece, Kathy Carr.

Mrs. Rider was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; a son, Jonathan; and twin granddaughters Charlotte and Noelle Rider.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, March 9, at the First Baptist Church in Dongola, with the Rev. Perry Williams and the Rev. Guy Inman officiating. Interment followed in the American Legion Cemetery.

Crain Funeral Home in Dongola was in charge of arrangements.
