Marshall Wayne Duty
Marshall Wayne Duty, 65, of Dongola, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1958, at Union County Hospital in Anna, the son of Lloyd Dewayne Duty of Dongola (deceased) and Carol Leader Wilhoit (Maurice) of Marion.
He married Tina Marie Ferrell on Aug. 14, 1976, in Jonesboro. Their son Robert Wayne Duty (Rhonda Cox) of Dongola, grandson Charles Marshall Duty, currently of North Ogden, Utah, and a granddaughter, Cali Dillow Basler (Ivan) of Anna, survive.
He attended school at Dongola and graduated from high school later in life. He worked for his father in the family construction and hauling business, as well as in cross country trucking for many years.
He accepted Christ as his Savior as a youth and became a Bible student later in life. He enjoyed discussing the scripture. He loved his family dearly and cherished their time together. His favorite pastimes were driving his pickup truck, collecting relics and going fishing.
He is mourned by his mother Carol; stepfather Maurice; brothers William Lloyd Duty and John Alvin Duty (Tanya) of Dongola and Marion David Duty (Connie) of Vienna; and sisters Lisa Maureen Mead (Randy) of Dongola and Carol Lynn Iaccino of Carterville.
Also mourning are nephews Jason Bolen (Dee) of Tennessee, Travis Duty of Sikeston, Mo., Trent Anthony Prout, Austin Mandel Mead, Gabriel Gene Mead (Sarah) and Marion Scott Duty (Samantha) of Dongola, Brandon John Duty (Kelsey) of Jackson, Mo., Michael Lloyd Duty (Rose) of Anna and Joseph Destino Iaccino of Pinckneyville. Also, nieces Hannah Elizabeth Schultz (Jeff) of Cypress, Amber Dawn Ciro (Omar) of Jackson, Mo., Etta Maureen Mead of Dongola, Cora Loran Gurrieri of Edwardsville and Carolann Iaccino of Carterville. Also many great-nephews and great-nieces. Children also close to Marshall were Tommy, Dionne and Bobby Lopez.
He was preceded in death by a niece, Tracy Lynette Duty of Eldorado; and also by many great-nephews and great-nieces.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, with the Rev. Larry Jordan officiating.
Following the ceremony, mourners proceeded to St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola for burial.
