Marion Russell ‘Russ’ Parker
Marion Russell “Russ” Parker, 87, of Villa Ridge, died at 6:55 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1937, the son of Joseph W. Parker and Juanita Curry Parker.
He married the love of his life, Peggy Schoen, on Aug. 13, 1955. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together.
Mr. Parker was a carpenter/contractor for over 50 years. One of the highlights of his life was working on the construction of Caledonia Community Church. He ended his working career at the Olmsted Lock and Dam.
During his retirement he enjoyed spending his time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Eugene Parker.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter Ginny (John) Severs of Pulaski; grandchildren Samantha (Kaleb) Green of Hartselle, Ala., and Ethan (Shania) Severs of Pulaski; brother Bill Parker of Villa Ridge; sister Loleen (Carlos) McClellan of Urbana; brother Dennis (Inge) Parker of Eagle Nest, N.M.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City. Inurnment followed. Full military honors were given by the Illinois National Guard burial team and area veterans.
